Xinjiang Alashankou Port to be the Biggest Inland Port in China (2004-03-17)

It was learned from the working conference of Alashankou Port Administrative Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region held recently, expansion and renovation of Alashankou Port could be completed in April. Its annual cargo handling capacity would reach 12 million tons, at this rate, 2 years later, cargo handled of Alashankou Port would exceed that of Manzhouli Port and become the biggest inland port in China.

In 2003, cargo handled of Alashankou Port was 7.5 million tons and 9 million tons to be expected in 2004. Because of abundant supply sources, it is doubtless that Alashankou Port become the biggest inland port in China within 2 years. But currently, the most important factor impacting cargo handled at Alashankou Port was transportation, so to improve the transportation capacity of railway was the urgent problem for the Port to solve.
