Tibet Tourism Bureau and Nepalese Consul General in Lhasa Consult about Tourism Cooperation (2004-03-10)

On March 2nd, 2004 Pa Sgron, director general of Tibet Tourism Bureau and Nepalese consul general in Lhasa consulted about tourism cooperation between two countries.

Firstly the consul general appreciated Tibet Tourism Bureau for consulting about tourism cooperation issues with him. He expressed that the tourism cooperation memorandum signed by two sides when the government delegation of Tibet Autonomous Region visited Nepal last year has a positive signification for tourism cooperation between Nepal and Tibet Autonomous Region henceforth. Up to now Nepal has become tourism destination for Chinese citizens and the visa is immune. However some prominent problems reflected by Nepaleses such as the high plane ticket price, lack of scheduled flights and the visa issue still exist.

Pa Sgron, director general of Tibet Tourism Bureau appreciated Nepal Tourism Bureau for inviting him to visit Nepal and expressed that tourism is the main industry of both Nepal and China Tibet Autonomous Region, therefore on the aspect of tourism two sides have strong complementary and comparability. China Tibet Autonomous Region will study and use for reference the experiment of Nepal on developing tourism.

Concerning about the problems of the high price of plane ticket and lack of scheduled flights, director Pa Sgron expressed that he will actively reflect it to relative departments. The suggestion of opening Katmandu-Lhasa scheduled flight made by Nepal has been submitted to National Civil Aviation General Bureau by Tibet Autonomous Region. Concerning about the suggestion of opening Nepal-Pulan scheduled flight made by Nepal, director Pa Sgron expressed that because there is still no airport in Pulan, Tibet, the problem can not be solved.

This year Nepal and Tibet Autonomous Region plan to consult again about enhancing tourism cooperation between two sides and Tibet Autonomous Region hopes that Nepalese tourism departments could list interlocution issues.
