Linhai is situated in the middle of the coastline in Zhejiang Province, it has the monsoon climate of subtropical zone.

Linhai is a state-Level Famous City of Historical Culture and a National Sanitation City. It is one of the comfortably-off counties of Zhejiang Province and is a famous town of Chinese tangerine, and a birthplace of China's share-stock economy as well．The city covers a land area of 2,203 km2, a sea area of 1,819 km2 and a population of 1,090,000．

Linhai has a long history, about seven thousand years ago, our ancestors began to labour and multiply here. In the Qin Dynasty,Weipu Township was set up,later in the year 85 B.C., Weipu County was established, and in 257 A.D., Linhai County began to exist．Then in 622 A.D., it was renamed Taizhou Prefecture. Since then,Linhai had been the seat of Taizhou District or Taizhou Prefecture, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, it had been the seat of the Administrative Office of Taizhou Region till Taizhou City was established． In March 1988, with the approval of the State Council,Linhai was upgraded to Linhai Municipality.

Linhai,with a pleasant climate and rich natural resources, is a hometown of fish, rice and orange in southern China. The sweet tangerine and high-quality tea produced here have won many awards. Linhai has made a rapid progress and tremendous achievements in economy and other social undertakings．The five key industries including mechanical and electronic industry, building materials industry, medical and chemical industry, arts and crafts industry and tourist articles industry have come into being.   The service sector is developing steadily. The gross domestic product of the City in 1999 was 8 billion yuan, the total state revenues in 1999 was 0.51 billion yuan. With a convenient transportation, a complete infrastructure facilities, and with fertile lands and talented people emerging generation after generation, Linhai has become the cultural, educational and medical centre of Taizhou City. It was ranked as the National Science Technology Advanced City.  Linhai now is a newly-rising city mixed together the beautiful scenery of ancient and famous city and the prosperous economy and other social undertakings of modern city.
