Transnational car giants achieved best results in China in 2006 (2007-01-18)

Transnational car giants General Motor, Ford, Volkswagen, Daimler-Chrysler, PSA-Peugeot-Citroen, BMW, Toyota and Honda recently released their 2006 results in China, all boasting impressive sales.


The world’s second largest car maker Japan’s Toyota increased its sales in China from 183,000 cars in the previous year to 308,000 cars, marking a growth of 68% year-on-year.


When releasing this figure, Toyota China’s Public Relations Manager Ms.Yang Hongjian said Toyota’s global sales for 2006 has not come out yet, but no doubt China has the highest growth and best performance, leaving all the other markets far behind.


The US’s big three car makers General Motor, Ford and Daimler-Chrysler all suffered sales decline in the US market in 2006 while registering drastic sales growth in China. The world’s No.1 car maker General Motor sold 876,700 cars in China in 2006, increasing 32% over the previous year and scoring a market share of 11.8% in the Chinese market, beating other transnational car giants.
