History

 

The archaeological excavations have proved a fact that from eight to nine thousand years ago, in the early period of the Neolithic Age, there had been the races of the activities of humanity in Jinan. As for the relics of this time, nowadays, only at Zhangqiu, Jinan, four sites have been discovered. Ever since, during the time of the Dawenkou Culture Age (6100-4600 B.C.), the activities of the ancestors of Jinan people had become more frequent. As for the Longshan Culture (4600-4000 B. C.), a city relics amounting to an area of 200,000 square meters has been excavated at the Chengzi Cliff, Longshan Town, Zhangqiu City, Jinan, whose scale ranks the top among the city relics of the same age discovered in the country. 

 

After Qin Shihuang, the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty, first united the separated states in China's history, he set up the system of prefectures and counties. The district and suburb area of Jinan today was under the jurisdiction of Jibei Prefecture and was called Lixia County. At the beginning of the Western Han Dynasty, Jinan Prefecture was set up, which marked birth of the name of "Jinan". At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, the central government used to set up Shandong Administrative Province. And Jinan became the capital of the province as the residential city of the administrative, military and juridical chief officers. Since then Jinan became the political center of Shandong. At time of the Qing Dynasty, Jinan remained as the capital of Shandong Province. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Jinan's economy had been rapidly developed. And ever since from Emperor Kangxi reigned, Jinan had become a commercial city with some scale.

 

A Survey of Jinan City

Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province on China's east coast, is the province's political, economic, cultural, financial and information center. It is located at the central-west part of Shandong Peninsula, with Mount Tai to its south and the Yellow River to its north. Jinan enjoys many beautiful sceneries, well known as "The City of Springs". It has a warm-temperate continental monsoon climate. Jinan has five districts, four counties and one county-level city under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 8,277sq.km. and a population of 5.9 million. 

 

Jinan is one of top 50 strongest comprehensive capacity cities in China. It owns a satisfactory variety of industries, focusing on mechanical electronics, steel, textile, chemical industry, building materials and auto-vehicles. Its agriculture has preliminarily formed industrialization scale, based on grains, vegetables, fruits, cotton, livestock and fowls breeding. There are sixteen universities, more than 1,200 scientific research institutes and 350,000 technical personnels in different fields here. Jinan is also a famous historic, cultural and tourist city, with a long history, with many world famous scenic spots, and historical sites. Jinan is rich in tourist resources.

Jinan has established economic and trade relationships with over 120 countries and regions since China's economic reform and opening to the outside world. At present the municipal government is formulating favorable policies, improving investment environment.
