Daqing focuses on developing six pillar industries including deep processing of petrochemical products, tourism and tertiary industry, electronics and information, building and building materials and pharmaceutical industry. I. Deep-Processing of Petrochemical Products

Daqing is China's largest petroleum production base as well as a very important petrochemical production base. It processes crude oil for over 14 million tons each year, and it produces more than ten categories of products with a variety of 160, such as fuel oil, lube, chemical fiber, fertilizer, plastic, oilfield polymer, surface active agent, caustic soda, and carbinol. Therefore it provides abundant raw materials for deep processing of petrochemical products.

II. Deep-Processing of Farm Products and By-Products

There are more than 900,000 hectares of arable land and 840,000 hectares of fine grassland as well as three million hectares of wasteland good for plantation in Daqing. Daqing is an important production base of commercial grain, animal products, and aquatic products in Heilongjiang Province. It offers plenty of raw materials and good opportunities for the green and harmless agriculture, fishery, animal husbandry and deep processing of farm products and by-products.

III. Electronics and Information

Daqing is an electronics and information technology base in Heilongjiang Province. Daqing New and High-Tech Industrial Development Zone attaches great importance to the electronics and information as leading industries. Tongtru Computers and the series products of IC card are the backbone enterprises in the Daqing New and High-Tech Industrial Development Zone.

IV. Building and Building Materials

Daqing's annual building floor space is at the increase of two million square meters. Most of the building materials are purchased from outside. It is of good social and economic efficiencies to develop the building and building materials industry in Daqing. Daqing has now established China's Northen Construction and Building Materials City. V. Pharmaceutical Industry

Daqing has 352 public health and medical care organizations including 14 comptrhensive hospitals, 35 special hospitals and 237 clinics as well as sanitation and anti-epidemic centers. However, at present there is no pharmaceutical plant matching with the medical system. It has a bright future for developing pharmaceutical industry based on the development of petrochemical products and farm products and by-products as raw materials.

VI. Tourism and Tertiary  Industry

Daqing has been included in the hot international tour route by the State Tourism Bureau with its more than 30 tourist resorts. These resorts are historical sites, China's largest petroleum science and technology Museum, horse racing on the grassland, hunting on waters and watching wide animals represented by red crowns crane, to name only a few.
