Natural geography

 

 

Zhuhai City, set up in 1979,is situated at the southern part of Guangdong Province, P.R. China. It is 140 km away from Guangzhou, stands on the western bank of the Pearl River estuary and is adjacent to South China Sea, borders Hong Kong and Shenzhen to the east by 36 nautical miles and Macao to the south by land. It lies between North Latitude 21ˇă48' to 22ˇă27' and East Longitude 113ˇă03' to 114ˇă19', the land area covers 1,653 km2 and sea area, 6,000 km2, including 146 islands.

Zhuhai is famous for its hundred-plus islands and one of the first Special Economic Zones in China. Zhuhai has been empowered with the local legislation by the National People's Congress. It governs three administrative districts: Xiangzhou, Doumen and Jinwan and five economic functional zones; Zhuhai National New and High Technology Industrial Development Zone, Zhuhai Free Trade Zone, Wanshan Ocean Development and Exemplary Zone, Hengqin Economy & Technology Development Zone as well as Zhuhai Harbor Industry Zone. By 2002, the city's population totaled 1.23 million, of which, 0.79 million were permanent residents.

Complete and well-designed city communications system, underground cable network and public utilities. Beijing-Zhuhai Express Way and China Coastal High Speed Highway meet in Zhuhai. Modern Zhuhai Airport has flights to many domestic cities. Zhuhai also has two international ports; Jiuzhou and Gaolan. The coverage of water and power supply, cable TV and broad band telecommunications network are in the lead in China.

Road Transportation

Beijing-Zhuhai Express Way has been operating since December 1999.
High-grade highways inside the city are connected with the national highway network.

Air Transportation

Zhuhai Airport covers 4 million square meters with 81 weekly flights to 32 domestic destinations.

Water and Power Supply
Zhuhai is rich in water and power resources.
The power capacity is 650,000 KV
The daily water capacity is 500,000 ton
Zhuhai Water Station with the daily capacity of 150 ton and Zhuhai Power Plant with the capacity of 3.72 million KV are in phased operation to meet the need in both living and production.

 

 

Telecommunications Network

Zhuhai has set up a city wide optical fiber and wireless telecommunication network with the optical fiber length of 32,338 KM and the optical fiber access length of 35,326 KM. Zhuhai has popularized the service in public phone, fax, wireless phone, IP phone, internet access (including wide band) and other services of DDN, FR, PS, IPVPN, MPLSVPN, ISDN and ADSL as well as data and broadband multimedia. Zhuhai has 700,000 program controlled telephone sets of which, 95 phone sets per 100 families (including mobile phones); 140,000 Internet users, 54 computers per 100 families.100 residential areas have been installed with the broadband information network. Zhuhai CATV station has begun to broadcast digital television programs with 115 CATV users per 1000 families and 167 TV sets per 100 families.
Zhuhai Municipal Government has attached great importance to the information construction and has planned for the construction of wide band information network. Now. Zhuhai has set up a governmental information network; www.zhuhai.gov..cn and www.zhuhai.com.cn. Foreign trade and economic co-operation, customs, taxation, finance, human recourses, social insurance, land planning, environment protection, health and hygiene and schools, etc, can be accessible to the computer network.
