Chongqing Economic &Technological Development Zone(CETZ) was approved by the State council in 1993,and then becomes the first state-grade economic and technological development zone in western China. By the end of 2003,the CETZ has approved the establishment of 2895 enterprises, among which there are 35 projects with the investment above 10,000,000USD.The total sum of foreign-invested has reached 1,600,000,000USD.A batch of the 500 world top enterprises and some well-known enterprises such as Ford and visteon, Ericsson ,British petroleum(BP),Metro ,Suzuki, Honda, Denso, Cansai ,Taiwan Plastics and Dinxin have set up here set up here in succession. The CETZ has attracted many investors home and abroad with its excellent investment environment and high-quality service.

CETZ is divided into two parts: the developed Southern Area and the developing Northern Area, which are respectively located in Nanping area of Nan’an District and in Yuanyang town and Lijia town of Chongqing New North District(CQNND).

The Southern Area is located in Nanping of Nanan District of Chongqing and occupies 9.6square kilometers for its layout. To the west is the Yangtze River, and the Egonyan Grand Bridge connects the area with the Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway. To the east are the Southern Mountain resort and the Chongqing-Guiyang Expressway leading to the seaport of southwest China.To the north is the Yangtze Grand Bridge to the Yuzhong District .It is only 3 kilometers away from the railway station,5 kilometers from the harbor and 28 kilometers from the railway station,5 kilometers from the harbor and 28 kilometers from the airport. It includes five areas which are information industrial Area, Dangui Industrial Area ,Huilong Industrial Area, Comprehensive Trading Area, Nanhu and Luochangwan Residential Area.

The Northern Area with a planned area about 83.7 square kilometers, is located in two towns,i.e. Yuanyang and Lijia of CQNND .It’s close to the Chongqing Airport and the railway center station to be built in order. With 4Expressways including 210,212,319 and the main circuit and NO.3 track going through the area, the northern area is 1 kilometer from Cuntran Harbor, the sole deep-water berth in Chongqing. Thus with a relatively smooth terrain and an advantageous location, the transportation of this Area is very convenient. It consists of Export Processing Zone, Automobile Industrial Park, Science & Technology Industrial Park and Business Center.

With ten years’ development, electronics and IT, biomedicine, automobiles and motorcycles, fine chemical industry and novel materials, green foodstuff, apparel etc. have formed six great mainstay industries in Southern Area.

With China’s entry to WTO and implementation of the Western Development, CETZ will outline the theme of development and carry out the three strategies of being pulled by external economic force, making CETZ prosperous by science and technology and keeping its sustainable development, under the guideline of developing favorable investment environment, optimizing investment operation, improving the quality of two aspects, and creating first-grade development zone.

CETZ is striving to hold the leading position in the economic scale in Chongqing and to become one of the top 10 among the state-level zones in China in comprehensive force. By the end of the Tenth Five-Year-Plan, the GDP will be 5.6 billion yuan, the total value of technology, industry and trade will reach 22 billion yuan , the total sum of imports and exports will be 800 million USD, while the output of advanced and new technology will occupy over 40% of the total. Furthermore the total tax and the actually introduced foreign investment will respectively amount 2 billion yuan and 0.5 billion USD.
