Vice Minister Wang Pei'an Investigated Population and Family Planning Work in Ruichang City of Jiangxi Province

On 31 July 2008, Mr. Wang Pei'an, Vice Minister of National Population and Family Planning Commission of China (NPFPC) investigated population and family planning work in Ruichang City of Jiangxi Province. Mr. Zhao Zehua, Deputy Secretary-General of Jiangxi Provincial Government, Mrs. Wen Honglian, Director General of Jiangxi Population and Family Planning Committee, and leaders from Jiujiang City also joined in the investigation.

Vice Minister Wang listened to the reports on their population and family planning work in 2008 by Ruichang government and Matou Town, learned about population and family planning management and service among the floating population in Matou Town, visited family planning service station of Ruichang City, and held discussions on many aspects of their work, such as sex ratio at birth, administration by law, and social support system for some rural families practicing family planning.

During the investigation, Vice Minister Wang fully approved the population and family planning work in Ruichang City. He thought that leaders of the Ruichang government had attached great importance to population and family planning work, which could be reflected from such aspects as the head of government departments taking the overall responsibility in family planning and seeing to its implementation at all levels with increasing financial input, the network for population and family planning management and service becoming perfect to reach all sectors and levels, and their population and family planning work being practical and realistic based on true and reliable data. At the same time, he also point out some aspects for improvement, including their low contraceptive prevalence rate which would bring about difficulty in their efforts to stabilize the low fertility level, the unbalanced sex ratio at birth brought about by the traditional concept on childbearing, and many new circumstances and problems in front which made the situation for population and family planning work even harder.
