Wuying Miao Village, located deep down in Damiao Mountain, consists of 140 households with over 600 residents, among which 100 belong to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region while the remaining 40 belong to Guizhou Province. Due to its remoteness and lack of arable land on the mountain, poverty alleviation work has been arduous. The Shibadong Village in the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Hunan Province struggled for generations with isolation and poverty. Shi Jun (second from right), a local villager and his family posed for a photo. Except his 82-year-old grandmother, the seven members of his family had all used to work in outside regions. However, since the village experienced a tourism boom, they have returned to their hometown to start businesses in pursuit of a better life.

At an altitude of 3,200 meters, there once remained only three households in Mazu Village, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Zhang Fei, the hero in this photo, came all the way from Anhui Province with his wife and daughter, to carry out the national policy of poverty alleviation, and became the fourth household. In early 2019, a 10-second video clip they shot was viewed by tens of millions of people so that the village has become a tourist attraction thanks to the promotion of local scenery, delicacy and organic produce on the Internet.
